FAITH IN ACTION
This program is a coalition of * Caring and compassionate private citizens * Involved faith communities and other religious congregations * Supportive community organizations All of whom are united for the purpose of enhancing the quality of life of the elderly, the homebound living with chronic illness, and persons living with disabilities through volunteer advocacy, assistance and support. Whom Do We Serve? Any Delaware resident that falls within the program guidelines may request services from the Faith In Action. The services are provided without charge. The skill and interests of an Faith In Action will be matched with the needs of the person or family requesting assistance. The Program guidelines are that each client would fall into one of the following categories: * Elderly * Disabled * Chronically Ill * Visually Impaired
Currently, there are five Faith In Action programs serving New Castle County, Southern New Castle County, Kent County, the Lewes/Rehoboth, and Southeast Sussex County. Who Calls For Services? Any Delaware individual, agency or organization can make referrals to an Faith In Action program. These includes: * Persons needing help * Family members, friends, and neighbors * Faith communities, including clergy, parish nurses, and other health ministers * Community groups and organizations * Health and social services agencies and organizations * Home health agencies and hospices * Adult day care and senior centers How Can You Help? How Can You Make A Difference? * Telephone Reassurance...calling a homebound senior once or twice a week. * Friendly Visiting...providing company for a homebound person. * Shopping/Other Chores...getting groceries or prescriptions for a patient. * Transportation...giving a ride to the doctor, pharmacy or grocery store. * Caregiver Respite...making a break for someone caring for a chronically ill family member. * Other Help...such as doing minor home repairs or assisting with paperwork.
